0000000000000000000000 DalamatianIt’s that time of year when the Firehall Theater and Crimson Creek Players honor the casts and crews of their various productions for their time and committment to community theater with the Dalmation Awards; sort of like the Tonys, but much, much classier.  We here at World of Champagne are thrilled to announce that our very own Janessa Jaye Champagne was nominated for 3 of these awards (under her “civilian” name, Chris Stoner): Outstanding Actor in a Musical or Play, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Musical, and Outstanding Newcomer.  The nominations come from her performance as Sylvia St. Croix in RUTHLESS! The Musical.

RUTHLESS! The Musical was Janessa’s second show at the Firehall Theater after joining the ensemble in February’s Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog.  She played Sylvia, a sleazy talent agent with a big secret, in the darkly funny spoof of child stars, Old Hollywood, and cut-throat competition.  RUTHLESS! The Musical featured outstanding performances by Emily Wirkus, Ophelia Brewer, Abby Schoenborn, Therese Borkenhagen, Mare Thompson, Jane Braaten, and Houston Scharmer (with a hilarious closing cameo by Assistant Director Frank Sikich), and was directed by Jared Kinney with music direction by David Henrickson.

“I’m truly humbled and honored to be nominated,” Janessa said in a statement to…no one in particular. “RUTHLESS! The Musical was such a wonderful and supportive experience, and I was thrilled to get to work with such a talented cast.  I would like to start by thanking all of the little people who made these nominations possible, like…” She continued on like this for several minutes.  We aren’t exactly sure why, but Janessa does tend to speak in soundbites a lot, as if she were always being followed by the media.  Which she isn’t.

On a slightly more serious note, these awards are a great time to celebrate the wonderful artistic contributions that community theater makes to our community.  What a great time to decide to support community theater.  Think about making a donation, or maybe buy season tickets for the next season, which is going to be amazing!  Or donate your time and talent: audition for a show, help with set or costumes, or volunteer at the theater.  There are lots of ways to be a part of this wonderful organization!

Congrats to all of this year’s Dalmation Award nominees!
