Still Another Week To Catch URINETOWN At UND’s Burtness Theatre

0000000000000000 UrinetownURINETOWN, the latest musical production at UND’s Burtness Theatre, plays for another week, November 15-17.  Tickets are $20 for Adults, $10 for students.  The show is dark and funny, and it’s message of social unrest is perfectly suited to our cultural moment.  The cast did a fine job with the material overall, and there was a coherent visual thread throughout the entire show.  The upper class characters’ costumes are saturated with vibrant neon colors while the poor and oppressed sport more chaotic looks with a strong 80s new wave and punk feel; hats off to costume designer Michelle Spencer Davidson for delivering on a concept that might have broken down into a Technicolor nightmare if handled poorly.  The choreography was cheeky and interesting, and the cast was made up of a coterie of fine vocalists whose talents fit the show well.  Only a minor complaint: the cast does best when handling the humor, especially the more outrageous bits, and some of the more “straight” elements of the show feel a little flat in comparison.  But director Emily Cherry and crew put on a wonderful show, so be sure to get to the Burtness Theatre this week to check out one of the best musicals to come out of the UND Theatre Department in recent memory.
