Janessa Presents: The “Fabulous Or Less” Beauty Giveaway! [Closed]

Published on May 24, 2014 by   ·   43 Comments

Miss Jaye is a tried and true bargain hunter – you can find her at garage sales and thrift stores looking for a good find.  It doesn’t mean she doesn’t enjoy some high end goodies from time to time; I mean, you don’t get to be a Sephora VIB Rouge member with box tops and enthusiasm!  But beauty is one of those categories where you can find some fabulous deals at a wide variety of price points.

A few months ago, Miss Jaye did a two-part Makeup Forum series on cosmetics she purchased at the Dollar Store here in Grand Forks.  If you missed it, you can read Part 1 HERE and Part 2 HERE.  It was quite the adventure, and she was actually surprised that some of the products were just as good as products purchased elsewhere at higher prices – in fact, some were even the same brands!  She decided it was time to revive an old tradition from the I-Beam days: a “Fabulous or Less” prize giveaway!

This giveaway will have two fabulous prizes!

First, is a selection of products and samples from Sephora, celebrating their Grand Opening in JC Penney in Grand Forks earlier this month.

This 10-piece  package includes:

* Full size Sephora Lip Gloss in #46 Golden Scarlet – Shimmery
* Full size Sephora Eyeshadow in #25 Purple Rain
* Full size Sephora Eyeshadow in #22 Fireworks
* Full size Special Edition Formula X for Sephora Nail Polish in Out of Sight
* Deluxe sample size Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien
* Deluxe sample size Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer
* Deluxe sample size Guerlain Cils D’Enfer Maxi Lash Mascara in Noir
* Deluxe sample of Dolce & Gabbana True Monica Lipstick in 4 shades with mini application brush
* Deluxe sample size Buxom Show Some Skin Weightless Foundation in Sweet As Honey
* Sample size Nars Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base

The second prize package is a collection of beauty finds straight from the Dollar Tree in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

This 16-piece collection of all full size products features:

* Physician’s Fomula Organic Wear Blush in Blushing Organics
* Aziza Blush Duo in Tropical
* L.A. Colors Pressed Powder Compact in Beige
* Maybelline Wear ‘N Go Lipstick in Go Sangria
* L.A. Colors Lip Gloss in Pink and Dreamy Pink
* L.A. Colors All-In-One Makeup Stick in Pink Satin
* NYC Cosmetics Lip Plumper in Very Clear
* Maybelline Color Show Fashion Prints Nail Stickers in Metal Prisms
* L’Oreal Star Glow Sheer Crème Eyeshadow in blue and pink (color names/numbers not visible)
* L.A. Colors Eyeshadow Trios in Lotus and Lily
* L.A. Colors Loose Eyeshadow in Honeysuckle
* L.A. Colors Liquid Eyeliner in Black/Brown
* L.A. Colors Mascara in Very Black

That’s where the debate between “Fabulous or Less” comes in: one winner will be getting high end products from Sephora…but they are getting a lot less!  With the Dollar Tree items, you may be sacrificing big budget packaging, fancy color names from the R & D department, and elite brand names, but there is a ton of product to create a variety of looks, all available for under $20!

So how can you win one of the “Fabulous or Less” gift packages?  All you have to do is leave a comment below and tell us what your favorite beauty splurge is – where are you willing to put down some serious coin for a product you just can’t live without – and/or what your “best kept secret” beauty bargain is – that product you can’t believe how good it is because it’s so affordable, it feels like stealing!

That’s all!  Everyone who leaves a comment below will be entered to win one of the two packages shown above.  Two winners will be chosen at random from all entries received by June 8.  One will win the Sephora package and one will receive the Dollar Tree package – who got Fabulous and who got Less will be up to YOU to decide!

  1. Sarah Lee says:

I absolutely can’t live without my Mary Kay mascara ($18) – and recently found a couple other mascara products that go with the mascara I already use to boost lashes to an amazing wow-factor level! So mascara is a must for splurging.
My best kept beauty secret is doing my own acrylic nails. I get a kit from Walmart for $15 and can do about 4 full sets plus bimonthly fills. I also do my own nail art and use the cheap $1 polishes either from Walmart or Dollar Tree. Comparing that to the nail salon’s price for a full set of acrylics starting at $45 plus around $10 for nail art, it’s a great bargain! Totally love it!

  2. amber says:

my splurge is perfume. i love folle de joie and at $100 a bottle it is a splurge for me. my beauty bargain is the entire elf line at target. i love this line and it is great price. i have compared their items to more expensive and at times the elf brand does better than the big brands.

  3. Nikki Q says:

My splurge is Mary Kay skin care and cosmetics. I’ve used it for over 20 years. One item I love is the Oil Free Moisturizing Gel for $30. For my nails I will pay whatever I have to for China Glaze because it is the strongest polish I’ve tried, but it’s only about $7 a bottle. Because I have weak nails, someone please let me know if you know of a super strong nail polish! My latest splurge/bargain was all three Naked palettes by Urban Decay. Using Amazon and my discount at Macy’s I got all three for the price of one plus just a few bucks!!! For some items I will try bargain brands, such as Rimmel liquid eyeliner, Maybeline mascara, or Hard Candy eyeshadow, all from Wal-Mart.

  4. Kaylene Myers says:

My splurge is skin are products because I don’t want
    To resort to Botox lol.

  5. BlackAsphodel says:

I like the mattifying moisturizer by Farmec. It’s very cheap, $2-$3 and it keeps my skin matte for a long time.

  6. Kate says:

My splurge is Lancôme definicils mascara.

  7. Bianca Rogoveanu says:

My beauty splurge is Skin79 BB cream, pink edition ! I only use foundation on special occasions now !
A beauty bargain product would be NYX matte lipstick, which has great lasting power, but i also like ELF baked blushes and bronzers !

  8. Carla S says:

I splurge on face lotions with retinol because some of them work.My favorite cheap beauty find is l’oreal voluminous false fiber mascara in very black.

  9. Sandy G. says:

My splurge is getting my toes done professionally so I can get the cool designs. My el cheapo find was some cold cream @ the dollar store that removes waterproof make-up, face paint, you name it – without any scrubbing!

  10. Jamie says:

I love splurging on my facial products. Peter Thomas Roth has this wicked Dragon’s Blood serum that has done wonders for my skin.

I also love my Urban Decay eyeliners. They always come out so smooth and the colors are so vibrant!

  11. Jaclyn Reynolds says:

I splurge on moisturizers. My cheap finds are eye shadows.

  12. Mae says:

I love to splurge on high end foundations like my Luminous Silk Foundation by Giorgio Armani, I think it’s really important to have a clear complexion!
My “cheap” beauty finds are ELF products such as their clear eyebrow/mascara gel!

  13. liz l says:

My splurge is my aveda tinted moisturizer

  14. Anna Pry says:

best bargain beauty item is jojoba oil, a little bit lasts a long time and it’s useful for many things: lip balm, hair smoother, body lotion, makeup remover, etc.

  15. Denise F says:

My splurge is my foundation… Estee Lauder Double Wear. I have such oily skin, this foundation will last all day and all night. My bargain deals are lip sticks and glosses!

  16. Ashley Nicks says:

I just ordered some makeup worth $25 on beautybrands.com and they sent a huge 18 piece cosmetic sample. I just got it last week but everything I’ve used so far is amazing.

  17. Natalie Brown says:

Hi! My beauty splurge is on Too Faced eye shadow palettes. I LOVE them! My favorite beauty save are elf studio line cosmetics. They really are fabulous for $3.00! Thank-you for this generous giveaway!

I love all the great comments…keep them coming! Winners will be chosen at random from all entries!

And check out my jewelry giveaway in the Announcements section!

  19. Darlene says:

My biggest splurge is either my foundation (Mac Face & Body Currently) or my concealer. I usually use Benefits Erase paste, but really splurged on Bobbi Brown concealer. It works great!

  20. Michele says:

I splurge (modesly) on skin care products. i have very sensitive skin and get rashes otherwise.

  21. Colleen Boudreau says:

    I splurge on foundation.

  22. Tanyatopia says:

I have a few splurges. My favorite makeup is eyeshadow, but my lids are oily and it creases a lot. Then I discovered Makeup Forever Aqua Matic Eye Shadow sticks and it changed my life! I love the purple shadow stick for a quick swipe of dramatic color that lasts forever. I also love Makeup Forever lipstick in #203, a neon hot pink that make my whole face look young, bright and happy. My last favorite splurge is Dior nail polish. The brush and formula are the best I’ve ever used and they are worth the price. My favorite beauty steal is virgin, organic unrefined coconut oil. I use it for everything from hydrating, to hair masks, rubbing into my nails and best of all, removing makeup.

  23. victoria says:

    splurge= vs setting spray

  24. Tricia Graf McBroom says:

I asked for a bottle of OPI Nail Envy for my birthday, because I couldn’t rationalize spending all that money on a base coat. After using it, I will never, ever be without it! It’s definitely well worth the money!!!!

  25. Elle says:

I splurge on foundation/concealer – if you don’t have a good base, nothing else matters. I want my skin to look flawless – everything else like eye shadow and blush and lip color, etc.. doesn’t matter as much.

  26. Linda says:

I love splurging on my urban decay products. I love the vibrant colors and how they stay on my face.

  27. Jessica says:

My biggest splurge is my MAC foundation. It’s so hard to find the right skin tone match with drugstore foundations because they often carry a limited selection.

  28. Julie Raye-Rod says:

I love splurging on my eyeliners. Urban Decay has some awesome glitter eyeliners!

  29. kelley says:

Nail polish is my biggest splurge <3

  30. Julie says:

I love so many different products. I am currently obsessed with my naked palette. I love being able to change up the colors and blending different shades each day.

  31. Donna says:

I tend to splurge on eyeshadows like urban decay and their beautiful palettes. I love drugstore products for eyeliners though. I’ve recently fallen in love with elf’s glitter eyeliners.

  32. brenda says:

i love nail polish, tyvm for the opportunity !

  33. Prasert says:

I would have to say that I probably splurge the most on foundations. Really great foundations can make your complexion and just everything else look spectacular. I love to use bare minerals.

  34. Ann says:

I splurge on random products. Some months I’m feeling lip luxurious so I’ll go for Stila or something like while other months I’m really into my eyeshadows so I’ll go for MAC.

  35. Janice says:

I always find myself splurging on nail polish. I love to play around with different colors/designs and I can’t resist a great shade.

  36. Danielle says:

I splurge the most on foundation because I have found that drug store ones don’t work well for me, they are always too dark and don’t have enough coverage. I like the more expensive brands.

  37. Linda says:

I don’t really splurge on one specific product but mostly brand – MAC. I love their stuff and I find myself spending way too much on their products.

  38. teresa koedyker says:

I will splurge on skincare products!! And I love Mac products too!

  39. Rachel Beltz says:

I will always have a weak spot for nail polish! I can’t help it!

  40. janessajaye says:

Thank you to everyone who entered! The contest is now closed, and we will announce the winners in our announcements section later today!

  41. If you are buying a gift for you friend or a relative you can give
them a designer cheap perfume for the occasion. In North America,
the Puritans had little time for frivolous celebrations so Mothers Day was abandoned.
Apparently, by doing so, the scent will automatically trickle out and
establish a breeze of perfume as you move your arms around.
