Letter From The Editor: Year 3 Will Be Bigger, Better, Bolder

Dear World of Champagne Readers,

sexy babyWhat an exciting two years I’ve had with this website adventure!  We launched the site in the summer of 2012, and it has been such an amazing experience and we’re constantly working to make it bigger, better, and bolder!  These are our goals as we move into our third year, and have we got some great stuff planned.

Over the last year, we’ve added some exciting giveaways to the site, and we definitely plan for these to continue!  Starting with the Lit Cosmetics Glitter Giveaway near the holidays, we’ve hosted a total of 7 giveaways: 6 makeup-related giveaways, including two that are running now (the Mini-Manicure giveaway featuring Nails Inc. London ends August 10 and the Neon Nails giveaway featuring Formula X for Sephora – just launched today – ends August 24), and our Full Monty Moment giveaway featuring a custom made piece of jewelry that I wore during the run of The Full Monty with the Greater Grand Forks Community Theatre.  Without revealing too much, we’ve got a very special giveaway planned to coincide with our site “makeover” (I know we’ve been promising that for some time now, but I promise it’s almost here!), a nail polish giveaway to help get your mani-pedi in the Halloween spirit, and celebration of one of the most timeless, classic cosmetic colors with some very special products!

0000000000 Spring Safe WordNot here for the glam goodies?  We’re also working on a lot of great content as well!  I’ve been trying to beef up the blog section with more new content, much of it infused with queer theory and ideas, questions about gender, and other thought-provoking stuff.  That doesn’t mean we don’t like to have fun: we’ve had two entries so far in our “Thin Line Between Love & Hate” series that have gotten a lot of positive responses.  And we’ve got our naughty side as well – we’re getting very close to the launch of a semi-regular podcast tentatively titled “Janessa After Dark” that will feature great interviews with artists and performers from the region, members of the House of Champagne, and other fascinating folks.  We’re hoping to launch the first episode with a bang, and we’re planning a rather racy blog post to act as a companion piece so definitely stay tuned for that!  We’re also hoping to expand out Local Arts & Theatre coverage – right now we cover pretty much every show put on by the Empire Theatre Company, the Greater Grand Forks Community Theatre, and UND’s Burtness Theatre, but we know there are lots more great arts events in the area, and we want to bring that information to you!

00 SparkleAnd of course, we are always looking for contributors!  With the launch of LivinGrand.com, we’re very excited about the potential for lots of new collaborations with local writers and artists, as well as bringing some of our WoC content to a wider readership.  Well written guests posts on interesting topics will always be considered for any of our content sections, so if you have a great idea bouncing around in your head or just want to see your words in print, contact us through the link at the top of the Home Page!

No venture like this comes without its challenges.  Not long ago, the majority of the images on the site were lost during a server move, and many of our posts had to be reworked or removed.  Health issues in April that lingered for several months sapped a lot of my energy and caused many of the plans for this site to be delayed or revised.  Losing our main performance venue at Sensations meant that we didn’t have a space to host our annual Champagne Dreams Productions Presents show.  And of course, my inability to play nice with even the simplest of technologies continues to be a stumbling block in my plans to become the Empress of the Known Universe.

But through it all, we’ve received so much amazing support from our readers, and from fans at shows, that I’m moving into the third year of this website with so much excitement and feeling awed and humbled by the amazing communities I’ve come to know and love.  Thanks for coming on this journey with me, and I hope you continue to enjoy what we produce – and get involved in helping us produce it!  Let’s work together to make a content site that is filled not only with show dates and gorgeous pictures (by the way, thanks a lot for those Miranda Roen and Raquel Smith!), but with thoughtful ideas, provocative conversations, and diverse perspectives.

Looking forward to another year of glamour!

Miss Jaye
