Tales From The (TokyoMilk) Dark Side

Apparently, overpriced lip balms are my new obsession.

Back in the day, I used to rock Dollar Store Carmex like a boss bitch!  But lately I find myself wanting my lips to be caressed by something with a little bit more style and substance, and I’m not just talking about a swarthy gentleman who likes to make out…but I’ll take one of those too.

Lip ChapNo, I’ve decided to be like Bey and upgrade my lip chap to something lush and classy, and I discovered TokyoMilk Dark just in time!  They have a collection of “Femme Fatale” personal care products that includes 6 amazing lip balms (or rather, Lip Elixirs) in sexy and unexpected scents.  Each one contains an intoxicating combination of beeswax and jasmine plus all kinds of nummy softening ingredients and vitamins to keep lips looking and feeling super soft and utterly kissable.  But the best part is the collection of scents that you absolutely will not find anywhere else:

Lip Balm 02

Clove Cigarette No. 18:  Crushed Clove, Lavender Rose, Saigon Cinnamon, Vanilla Bean
Salted Caramel No. 36:   Sweet Cream, Sea Salt, Caramelized Sugar, Toasted Vanilla Bean
La Vie En Rose No. 42:   Rosewater, Sweet Orange, Peach, Tahitian Vanilla
Cherry Bourbon No. 77:  Cherry Brandy, Whiskey, Aged Wood, Clove
Absinthe No. 84:   Anise, Mineral Salt, Citrus Peel, Crushed Herbs
Coco Noir No. 60:   Dark Rum, Maraschino Cherry, Sweet Milk, Cacao Bean

Lip Balm 01What I love about these lip balms is that the scents are really complex – it would be really easy to make a lip balm with a strong anise flavor and throw in some green color and call it Absinthe.  But the TokyoMilk Dark balm really does have a nuanced smell that includes several different notes.

The formula contains beeswax and jasmine and the consistency is thick without being too greasy; it smoothes over the lips and retains its gorgeous smell for a long time.  All 6 of the scents are really lovely, and what I appreciate is that the smell is different when you apply it than what it smells like in the tin – more of the notes are released when you run your finger over the product.

Each of the tins is also a pretty good deal at only $7 and contains .70 ounce, much better than most typical lip balms.  You’ll have this to moisturize and smoothe your lips for a long time.

Now that I’ve gotten a “taste” of this part of the Femme Fatale collection, I may have to check out some of their other offerings.  They also carry some fragrances and a line of hand creams, all with vampy names and decadent smells.  I just hope that the other products in the line are just as high quality, have scents with as much complexity, and are as good a value as these fantastic lip balms.

Who knew a lip product without color could make such a statement?!
