Going Four-ward: A Letter From The Editor

Hey there World of Champagne fans!

I can’t believe that we are almost to August and the 3rd “birthday” of this website.  As we get closer to that day, I wanted to share a few thoughts with all of you about the site, where we’ve been, what I’ve learned, and where (I hope!) we’ll be going in our fourth year of operation.

champagne buttonFirst of all, just let me say that when I launched this site back in the summer of 2012, less than a year after a painful divorce and lots of other life changes, I had no idea where I would be in just three short years!  In that time, I’ve been so blessed to continue performing around North Dakota, including some of the most successful shows we’ve ever hosted in Bismarck with the Dakota OutRight organization.  I started a relationship with Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska and have performed there 3 years in a row for their annual charity show, and had the opportunity to meet and perform with JuJubee of RuPaul’s Drag Race fame.

As life both in and out of drag has gotten more hectic, I’ve also learned a lot about my challenges – at my job we like to call them “areas of opportunities.”  Despite a couple of announcements, we still haven’t managed to launch our semi-regular podcast, Janessa After Dark, and the site is still waiting for it’s cosmetic update that we promised right around this time last year.  As much as I love writing and assembling this content for you, my technical skills are very limited and so those goals are particularly challenging to me.

You Like MeHowever, we are hoping that year 4 will be the biggest and best year ever.  First, come hell or high water, we are going to follow through on our previous announcements: we will have a cosmetic upgrade to the look of the site (while still keeping it easily navigable!) and we will release our first episode of Janessa After Dark – even if it turns out to be our first and only!  We’ve been talking about it for a while now, and it’s time to put our money where our mouth is.  It’s going to happen, year four.

We’re also going back to the foundations and do more of what we do best.

First, that means more fabulous images for your viewing pleasure.  Last year we didn’t manage to schedule our annual photoshoot with photog extraordinaire Miranda Roen, and no one was more sad about that than me!  I love, love, LOVE her work!  And you will get plenty of chances to see more of her work coming to the site: as I type this, I have a whole flashdrive of images waiting to be sorted into galleries and posted to the site, including a very special fashion magazine style photo spread I’m calling “Disturbia.”  It’s to die for!  Plus, I already have another session booked with Roen Photography next month, and I’ve been talking to a couple of other photographers for additional sessions.  Year four is going to be the year of the image — and we hope you love each and every one!

BeautyWe’re also hoping that Champagne Dreams Productions will have an opportunity to dust off its dancing shoes and put on some really fabulous events.  “10 Years of Dreams,” the drag show and dance commemorating 10 years of producing high quality entertainment as well as the launch of this site, and the 2013 follow-up show, “Hollywood,” were the types of fantastic events I hope you expect from me and all of the amazing performers I work with.  In the coming year, I hope to be able to bring you new and exciting events, including a few “outside the box” types of events for your entertainment.  I love trying out new things, and I never want to get bored!

Finally, we will continue to bring you all of the content you already love from the World of Champagne: blog articles, both serious and frivolous, exploring a myriad of topics from gender studies and queer theory to humorous observations about current events and trends; reviews of local theatrical productions by all of the major players in town (UND, ETC, and Firehall Theatre) as well as coverage of select events that catch our creative eye; reviews and tips in the Makeup Forum to help you make buying decisions about cosmetic confections for your vanity table; and more giveaways of great products to show our appreciation for your continued support.  Without you, our readers, we would be nowhere!

0 ChampagneAnd once again I’d like to extend the invitation to share this space with our readers in new and exciting ways: we would LOVE to have guest writers and bloggers contributing to our site.  So far we’ve hosted a guest review in our Lcoal Arts and Theatre section and two guest blog posts: one about sex toys for boys and one by the utterly fabulous blogger Mistress Didi about communication in relationships (although her site is aimed at the BDSM community, she has a lot of great wisdom for any interpersonal relationship).  We want to do more!  Please consider proposing an article for inclusion on our site; we aren’t able to pay contributors (even with all the success we’ve seen over the last three years, it is still very much a labor of love!) but you’ll get to see your name in print, get a publishing cred you can add to your resume, and retain all rights to your original work.

Thank you again for all of the tremendous love and support you’ve shown me and this site over the past three years and I really do hope you’ll come along for the ride as we move “four-ward” into our fourth fabulous year!
