Miss Jaye is taking off the wig and starting out on a new adventure: The Reading Room at Shanti Ma’a!

Out of drag, Chris Stoner (Miss Jaye’s “civilian name”) has been studying the tarot for more than twenty years, and has been reading for clients for about ten.  Reading tarot is a wonderful art with a very rich history going back a few hundred years and is a tremendous tool for self-awareness and personal improvement.  Chris has done readings at a variety of locations from the Urban Stampede and the former 12 Houses as well as dorm meeting rooms and private homes.  And while the life of a “wandering tarot reader” might sound glamorous, we are excited to announce that Chris will finally have his own space for throwing cards: The Reading Room!

Shanti Ma’a is a gorgeous space in downtown Grand Forks originally conceived by Lisa Dawn Howard (people remember her as the “master manifester” behind 12 Houses) and Hannah Herda; there are a few different practitioners who use the space for a variety of purposes including yoga, reiki, and other intuitive readings, and as of September 1, Chris is the space’s newest resident!  He’s been working away for the last few weeks getting everything set up, and the space is almost ready to go!

Chris’s primary focus is tarot and oracle card reading, though he often supplements his readings with crystals and special focus on the chakras.  Always looking to learn and expand, he is currently researching the history and symbolism of the tarot through two of the most famous and historied decks, the Tarot de Marseille and the Rider-Waite-Smith deck.  In addition to tarot readings, Chris also has a selection of handmade jewelry displayed throughout the space that is for sale.

The plan for the space is small, with readings by appointment and occasional office hours, but may expand in the future to include workshops and classes, creativity days, and more.  The mission: to provide a space for people to receive readings to help with personal growth and empowerment, and to foster creativity and continual healing and self-improvement whenever possible.

(Chris’s official ordination credentials; sorry for the glare and shoddy camera work! – Miss Jaye)

Chris is also an ordained minister in the Universal Life Church and is available to preside over weddings and celebrations for people of any and all genders.
