Bag It Up: Sephora’s Breakups to Makeup Collection

Breakups 2So, I love makeup bags and containers, but I rarely get excited enough about them to buy them unless they are super cheap to start or are on clearance.  A lot of the bags I have were “gift with purchase” situations, like the coordinated bags that came with Urban Decay’s Vice 3 and Vice 4 palettes, or loyalty rewards, like the bags I have commemorating Sephora’s 2014 Color of the Year Radiant Orchid.  Why buy a bag when you can eventually get one sent to you free?

Well, I finally found a line of bags that have changed my thinking…somewhat.  Enter Breakups to Makeup, a Sephora store brand collaboration with an indie artist that so far includes a small collection of makeup bags with great graphic art, block lettering, and statements that speak to my makeup obsession:

I’m pretty sure that the first bag I got – a beige faux leather with copper lettering proclaiming “These are a slew of my favorite things” – was part of some sort of holiday promotion (Sephora knows how to hook me!) and another faux leather bag, this one with copper lettering saying “All dressed up and ready to glow” followed soon after.  I thought they might have been one-offs, a holiday promotion, but then I recently say the addition of a couple of canvas bags with black lettering.  One bag, a smaller version, was packaged in a special kit with a Sephora lip stain and proudly declared “My lip stain is sealed.” Of course I had to add that to my collection, along with one of the full size bags stating “Please, I can’t even commit to a lipstick” (seemed apropos to my life at the moment!).  There was another bag on the site that I didn’t get, “I may not be perfect but my makeup is,” and I’m hoping to see more of this collaboration in the future.

BreakupsFrom the Sephora website:

From quirky products to empowering slogans, Breakups to Makeup embraces the future and contends that no matter what happens in life, you can hold your chin-up and meet the horizon head on. The brainchild of accomplished makeup artist and professional educator, Angelique Velez, Breakups to Makeup spreads the message that makeup is more than just a product; it is an art form. Sephora Collection partnered with the indie brand to create the perfect accessory for those who love the art of makeup and aren’t afraid to face the world with a sly wink and a few choice words.

Velez’s designs are striking and attractive, making this collection utterly crave-able, and makeup mavens should hope that this isn’t a temporary fling but the beginning of a long term partnership.  At a time when I’ve been feeling some real boredom with my Beauty BFF Sephora, these bags make me feel excited about the brand again.
