Like A Mood Ring…For Your Mouth?! Say Hello To The Frog Prince!

A green lipstick?  You know I’m going to be all over that.

A green lipstick that applies to a light, fairytale pink?  Sign me up – I have got to see how this goes down.

Enter the Frog Prince, a collection of three products (lipstick, lip gloss, and cream blush) from the brand Lipstick Queen.  I’ve seen their blue lipstick Hello, Sailor (another color change product that apparently applies purple/mauve) in ads before but never tried out the brand.  However I recently watched a video by Tati where she gave it a go and decided that I had to try it for myself.

As I mentioned, the lipstick is a gorgeous green in the tube but is meant to apply as a deep pink shade.  When she swatched it on video, she seemed to have a more dramatic color payoff than I did.  Here is a video that I made applying it for the first time:

I really wasn’t thrilled with it out the gate.  It was very sheer and felt more like a balm.  Sorry for the janky video quality – but that’s my life story!  As I wore it, it did start to develop more color; my pH turned it a deep berry pink shade, definitely still way too sheer to wear on its own but better than the barely there glaze of initial application.  Looks real cute with my stubbly, unshaven face – yowza!

Frog Prince

This one is fun if you want a nice simple wash of pink color, and something that personalizes itself (supposedly) to your face chemistry.  For those like me who want some serious color payoff, this is not the lipstick for you.  It’s fun, it’s gimmicky, but it’s not a staple in this queen’s lip wardrobe.  And the gloss is sort of superfluous given that the color payoff from the lipstick isn’t really that much different from a gloss to start with.

I was hoping for a fairytale, but this green lipstick ended up just being another frog.  And it was a frog that cost me $25.  Grimm, indeed.

I think I would like it because I like sheer balmy stuff during the day.
