Customizing Menagerie Cosmetics!

Check out my YouTube channel for a brand new Makeup Thunderdome featuring everyone's favorite brand that they forgot about...

I love when a brand allows you customize your layout. Sometimes I choose to do so, sometimes I don't, but I appreciate having the option to do so. I know that this contributes to the price of the products, but I don't mind paying a little extra for that customizable experience. And since I was filming a Makeup Thunderdome for Menagerie Cosmetics anyway, I decided to do the ranking on how the palettes arrived to me (for the most part - I had already done a little shifting and swapping, which I note here and in the video!) and then going ahead and customizing my full collection! I'm pretty happy with the results.

I started by taking out the palettes that I either didn't and to customize or that didn't fit in - you'll see what I mean!

The Serenity palette was a collab between Menagerie and Annette's Makeup Corner, and I decided to leave this one as is. I like being able to look back at collabs and see what creators did with their collabs. There were a few shades here that I would have loved in other palettes, but I loved how this had very similar vibes to Circo Loco by Natasha Denona, so I left it as is,

The other palette that doesn't get the full treatment is the Sugar High palette - but that's because Menagerie changed their pans from squares to rounds, and this is the only round pan palette that I have!

However, I had forgotten that I had already customized this palette when it came in! The photo on the right is the original layout shown on the website, and the photo on the left is my customized layout. I loved the colors but I wanted them organized in vertical rows with the greens and turquoises on the left leading into the pinks and purples, the reds, and then ending with the yellow and orange shades.

With those out of the way, I took all of the leftover shades and got to work customizing my Collection!

Courtship

For this palette, I really wanted to emphasize the beauty of flamingoes! I think they are such colorful and beautiful birds, and the very mustardy brown and deep red shades in the original just wasn't giving me the full fantasy.

I kept the deepest red shade and the pink shimmer, but then I added in a pink shimmer and three other red and pink mattes to really give me the flamingo fantasy. It's not going to give me a ton of options for looks, but it's a 6=pan palette - what did you expect?! I think it's a fun little pink/red celebration!

Feral

This is a fun palette, but I wanted something that would capture a sort of wild landscape. Leave the flora for the other palettes, I wanted dirt and swamp and leaves and just general outdoor neutral gorgeousness!

The original layout was pretty, but it had a rather random selection of colors - it felt more like beautiful confetti than a coherent color story to me. I swapped out all of the more vibrant shades for neutrals and swampy greens, with the exception of that bright yellow shade to add a little sunshine to our feral landscape!

Pastel Pup

Pastel Pup is one that I had already changed up a little bit, and there wasn't much more I needed to do. I had long ago gotten rid of the matte black shade (black is aggressive and I prefer to deepen pastels with deeper shades of the same color) and instead had swapped in one of their shimmer shades (the yellow - Chickadee, I think?).

For its final form, I just swapped out the white matte for the golden coral shimmer from Indigo Ink and shifted everything to keep the gorgeous pastel rainbow gradient going strong!

Flight Club

Flight Club was pretty fantastic as is, so I just swapped out some of the more neutral and muted shades for brighter pops of purple.

I was one shade short when I had gathered all of the most saturated purples, and I still had that white matte from Pastel Pup hanging around, so I popped it in, and this was now purple perfection!

Indigo Ink

I mentioned in the Thunderdome that I loved that Indigo Ink surprised me with the color choices. I wanted to keep some of that surprise and weirdness while refining the colors a bit more for my preferences.

I needed that hot coral pink for Courtship - sorry not sorry! I swapped that out for a slightly more subdued peachy pink and the red got a little softer as well. I also focused on blue tones instead of the shifts of green that had been there before, but I still had to have the delightfully unhinged pop of lime. I love that this gives you lots of blue options, some interesting pops to mix in, and you could also do a simple eye with the red, peach, and Pearl shimmer, and no one would ever guess where it came from!

Whalesong

Leave me to my own devices long enough, and I'm probably going to find a way to make a totally or mostly monochromatic green palette! And this is it!

Even though most of the blues, and the pearl shimmer, all ended up in Indigo Ink, I still feel like this has some gorgeous oceanic vibes. The only thing I'm not 100% happy with is that really grass green shimmer. It will work great with all of these greens, so it makes sense from a utility standpoint, but it sort of takes me out of the ocean fantasy a bit. I tried a few other options, but none that I really like, so it stayed. It's still lovely.

What do you think of my customized Menagerie Cosmetics collection? If you haven't already watched my Thunderdome ranking, make sure you check that out as well - and let's start talking about Menagerie Cosmetics again! I love these shadows, they are rich and pigmented, and their liquid lipsticks are some of the best out there.

(And if you liked this Thunderdome and customization post, then stay tuned - I'll be doing it again soon with both Bella Beaute Bar and Adept Cosmetics!)
