I recently came across these photos from an old Face Friday post - the series I started during the pandemic where I would post step-by-step walkthroughs of a new look (almost) every week - and I realized that they are very similar to a look I just filmed for my YouTube channel. I decided to post them so you could take a look at how much has changed (or not) with my makeup style and application techniques!

I love doing looks with different colors on my eyes. This can be tricky, but one thing that helps is choosing shades for each eye that are roughly the same depth - two lights that are similar, two mediums, two shimmers, etc. And you can always use a little matte black or matte white to add a little extra depth or highlight if needed!
Another thing that can be helpful is using a shade in the inner corner that is the same on both eyes, like I did for this look. I figured that since red and blue make purple, a light lavender shade would be perfect in the inner corner to help bring the two eyes together.

This look was also a lot of fun to do because I got to play with some of my favorite palettes of the time: the BH Cosmetics Sweet Shoppe palettes! There were six of them, they went a little bit viral (at least in the indie YouTube spaces I was hanging around in), and they were stunning. Were? I still have them in my collection! I don't pull them out very often anymore, but I still remember how much of a hit they were - and worth every bit of the hype!
Let's start with the base:
I still use that Peach Delight primer, and I'll be sad when I finally run out. Not only did they discontinue that, but also the Strawberry Whip primer. Those two together are my favorite combo to start a look! Uoma is still my favorite foundation, and with all the chaos they've gone through the last couple of years, I hope they keep it and I hope that it stays the same quality. The concealer is alright. I never get that hyped about a concealer and I found this one to just be ok, but it's a great match with the foundation.
Ahh, baking with the Give Me Glow powder in Sugar Cookie! That really brings me back! I don't do as much baking anymore, but that step used to be a signature, and the Give Me Glow powders were stellar for that! I know I still have some of that in my drawer. We're starting off this look with some bangers!

To start the look, I put down some of the lavender shade Confection in the inner corner on both sides. Although this sometimes changes if I'm doing a different kind of look or for a specific eyeshadow formula, but my typical process is to go from inner to outer, lighter to darker, and then add shimmers and highlights on top as needed.
I'm not sure why I didn't get a photo of the cover of the blue palette, but it was called Bubble Gum. Anyway, here you can see where I start to build out the mattes on either side, mixing red with a bright pink and the blue with a medium purple. Once I have the base of the mattes, I used a white concealer to map out where I wanted my cut crease for the shimmer shades.
I started filling out the shimmers across the lids, starting with the lighter shade and then adding the deeper shade father across, and blending them together, and blending the deeper shade into the mattes.

I wanted a bit smoother of a blend into the mattes on the blue side, so I added another, deeper shimmer shade. This can help balance things out and ease the transition. You can also use a bit of matte black to deepen an outer corner, just depends on your preference and what you're comfortable with. Black shadows can get out of control easily if you use to much, so starting with a deeper transition shimmer can be the more user-friendly way to go, especially as you're learning.
Finishing off the eye, I pulled two more shimmers from the palettes to set off each eye, and then finished with some mascara and false lashes. Those lashes are from Glamlite, and I'm still sad that they don't have their wide array of lashes available anymore. Luckily, I have quite a backstock from them as well as from Blend Bunny, so I'll be set for lashes for a while, but I know that dark days are a-comin'...
The contour sticks from Uoma are mid. I love the way they work, but there's not enough product; it's a double-ended product with a cream highlighter on the other end, and I wish they would just make them separate items and give you twice as much contour! I am always finishing up the contour side before I've even made a dent in the highlight.
Those glowy Nabla blushes, however, as just as dreamy now as they were then. I love a glowy cheek moment. In addition to using these by themselves, I'll also pull them out sometimes to layer over a matte blush to make it even more gorgeous!

I'm never going to be your drugstore recommendations girlie, but I will say that Wet'n'Wild highlighters are often just as good if not better than a lot of more expensive brands. This pearly dream was from their Fantasy Makers line, a costume-focused line, but you'd never know that I wasn't wearing a dusting of Ofra's Glazed Donut!

I need to get some new liquid lipsticks from The Lip Bar! I remember loving them, but I think the ones I had went bad and I had to get rid of them. This red shade is wild, just on the cusp of pink, and that's one of my favorite shades to wear. This Glamlite gloss is meh, at best. They've done so much work to improve the quality of their lip products in the last couple of years, so I'm glad I can recommend them now. This one looked ok in these pictures, but it just wasn't it.

And there we have the final look! Oh, she's so young and naive! If only I could tell her...
And if that's where we started, let's take a look at where we are now!

If nothing else, the wig game has certainly improved!
