The world needs scapegoats. It's not pretty, and we don't like to talk about it, but it's true. If we don't have someone to blame for our troubles, then what if we had to start looking inward? What if we had to change? What if we had to look ourselves in the eyes and say, "Maybe some piece of my happiness is within my control." What if we had to admit that who someone loves, or what pronouns someone uses, or how someone feels about their body and how they might choose to alter it to feel more at home in their own skin has abso-fucking-lutely nothing to do with us finding our own treasured peace. What if we were the ones standing in our own way, not they/them?
